A system for determining at least one condition of a seal including an optical fiber for transmitting light from a light source. The optical fiber is embedded in the seal and operatively coupled to an interferometric system. The interferometric system is operatively coupled to a processor. The interferometric system provides the processor with information relating to wear of the optical fiber, and the processor determines wear of the seal, rate of wear and remaining useful life of the seal based on the information relating to wear of the optical fiber.

Un sistema para determinar por lo menos una condición de un sello incluyendo una fibra óptica para la luz que transmite de una fuente de luz. La fibra óptica se encaja en el sello y se junta operativo a un sistema interferométrico. El sistema interferométrico se junta operativo a un procesador. El sistema interferométrico provee del procesador la información referente al desgaste de la fibra óptica, y el procesador determina el desgaste del sello, el índice del desgaste y la vida útil restante del sello basado en la información referente al desgaste de la fibra óptica.
