A process for production of an olefin polymer is provided which comprises polymerization of ethylene and/or .alpha.-olefin of three of more carbons at a polymerization temperature of not lower than 120.degree. C. with a catalyst comprising a specific metallocene compound having a substituted fluorenyl group, and a compound which reacts with the metallocene compound to form a cationic metallocene compound. The olefin polymer or copolymer produced by the process has narrow composition distribution, narrow molecular weight distribution, and a high molecular weight.

Un procedimento per produzione di un polimero dell'olefina è fornito che contiene la polimerizzazione etilene e/o un'alpha.-olefina di tre di più carbonio ad una temperatura di polimerizzazione di non più basso di 120.degree. C. con un catalizzatore che contiene un residuo specifico del metallocene che ha un gruppo sostituito di fluorenyl e un residuo che reagisce con il residuo del metallocene per formare un residuo cationico del metallocene.
