The invention relates to the use of compounds of the general formula (I) ##STR1## wherein Y is a C.sub.1-3 -alkenylene group, wherein B is selected from the group, which consists of C.sub.1-26 -alkenylene groups, wherein one C-atom is replaced by an oxygen atom and one C-atom is replaced by a sulphur atom or two C-atoms may be replaced by a S-heterocycle, and wherein X represents the organo phosphorous group. ##STR2## or the amino group ##STR3## for inhibition of the 1-deoxy-D-xylulose-5-phosphate-(DOXP)-metabolic pathway, use there of as a herbicide and for the preparation of a pharmaceutical preparation as well as a method for the therapeutic and prophylactic treatment of infections in humans and animals, caused by viruses, bacteria, fungi and parasites.
