An objective lens includes a first lens unit with positive refracting power
and a second lens unit on the specimen side of the first lens unit. The
first lens unit has at least one lens and the second lens unit has at
least one optical element, satisfying the following conditions:

where .nu..sub.dLD is the Abbe's number of glass material of the lens,
.nu..sub.dHD is the Abbe's number of glass material of the optical
element, .phi..sub.II1 is the refracting power of a first surface of the
second lens unit, and .phi..sub.T is the refracting power of the entire
system of the objective lens.
