Synthetic peptides and derivatives thereof capable of inhibiting the
biological activity of anti-beta-2-glycoprotein 1 (.beta.2GPI) monoclonal
antibodies (mabs) in vitro, and of inhibiting induction of experimental
anti-phospholipid syndrome (APS) in mice by anti-.beta.2GPI mAbs, are
provided for the diagnosis and treatment of anti-phospholipid syndrome in
humans.
