Described is a triarylmethane dye of the formula I where R.sup.1 and
R.sup.2 are independently methyl, ethyl or hydroxyethyl, Q is substituted
or unsubstituited phenyl or naphthyl and A.sup..crclbar. is the equivalent
of an anion. It does not detach carcinogenic Michler's ketone.
