A scenario method for teaching multiplication includes constructing a
story in which a student is told that an equal number of objects (X) are
to be collected from one or more sub-groups, the number of sub-groups
comprising a number Y. The student is next instructed to collect the X
number of objects from each of the Y sub-groups into a large group. The
student is next instructed to count the number of objects collected in
the large group, that number being the product of X*Y.
