The present invention relates to an air intake apparatus for an internal combustion
engine of an automobile. The apparatus has an enclosure with an air supply path
running throughout. Within the enclosure is an electrically driven supercharger,
an automotive battery arid possibly other electronics. The enclosure is divided
by a partition with an air passage into a battery compartment and a supercharger
compartment. The battery compartment is upstream of the supercharger compartment.
Air enters the battery compartment through an inlet, travels through the air passage
in the partition, enters the supercharger and leaves through an outlet in the supercharger
compartment to feed the engine. When the supercharger is running it draws in additional
cool air from outside the enclosure through the inlet. This maximizes the cooling
of all components upstream of the supercharger, in particular the battery which
can heat up significantly when the supercharger is drawing maximum current
