Thermal spray powders suitable for application of a thermal barrier coating
on a substrate can be obtained by plasma spraying a chemically homogeneous zirconia
stabilized in the tetragonal form using a stabilizing oxide such as yttria to obtain
a powder comprising substantially spherical hollow zirconia particles with sizes
less than about 200 micrometers.
