A solid polymer electrolyte fuel cell includes a polymer electrolyte membrane
having
proton-conductivity. An anode is disposed on one surface of the polymer electrolyte
membrane, and a cathode is disposed on the other surface of the polymer electrolyte
membrane. The cathode has a first gas diffusion layer joined to a second gas diffusion
layer in the thickness direction of the cathode. The second gas diffusion layer
has different characteristic compared to the first gas diffusion layer.
