A portable display unit is provided that illuminates a symbol formed by the unit.
The display unit has a body substantially forming the symbol, which has an outline
surface for receiving a rope light. The outline surface defines an inner region
of the symbol and at least a section of the body substantially fills the inner
region. The display unit further includes a rope light attached to the outline
surface and connected to a power cord, as well as a hanging element attached to
the body for removably attaching the unit to a support surface. The body and rope
light may have various colors to enhance the symbol or represent colors for the
logo formed by the symbol. In one embodiment, the body defines a channel and the
outline surface forms a surface of the channel.
