A basketball system that includes a movable platform and a pole rotatably mounted
to the movable platform. The pole has either a curved or an angled region, and
also has an axis of rotation. The basketball system also includes a backboard mounted
to the pole and a rim mounted to the backboard. The rim has a vertical central
axis that is coaxial with the axis of rotation of the pole. In addition, the movable
platform is horizontally adjustably mounted to a base. A controller may be employed
to control the operation of the system, such as by adjusting the distance and rotation
of the pole in accordance with a stored program or a user defined preference, by
starting and stopping a ball return system in accordance with the player pace of
shooting, etc.
