A technique for aiding in literacy development is presented. The technique
includes an apparatus, method, system, and computer program product using
Word Things to build on a foundation of language development and bring
users (e.g., children) toward a world of literacy. The Word Things are
comprised of a set of linguistic characters formed such that when the
linguistic characters are arranged to form a word, the word forms a shape
representative of an object represented by the word. In animated
versions, the Word Things interact in a Word World environment, making
letters, phonics and words come alive in a new and unique way by giving
them a physicality that enhances appeal and comprehension.
