The specification discloses a process for the manufacture of carbon
disulfide from sulfur dioxide and carbon monoxide comprising two
catalytic reactions. In the first reaction, sulfur dioxide and carbon
monoxide are converted to carbonyl sulfide and carbon dioxide. In the
second reaction, carbonyl sulfide is disproportionated to carbon
disulfide and carbon dioxide. The second reaction is conducted in the
presence of a solvent, which continuously removes the carbon disulfide
product so as to drive the reaction to completion.
