The invention provides a novel calcium-independent cytosolic phospholipase A.sub.2/B enzyme, polynucleotides encoding such enzyme, antibodies to such enzyme, and methods for screening unknown compounds for anti-inflammatory activity mediated by the arachidonic acid cascade.
