The present invention relates to novel sulphonamides of the general formula (I) ##STR00001## in which the substituents R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3, R.sup.4 and A and X are as defined in claim 1 and other claims, and also to processes for their preparation and to their use as antiviral agents, in particular against cytomegaloviruses.
