The invention provides a process for making compounds of the general formula I: ##STR00001## wherein R.sup.2, R.sup.4, R.sup.5, R.sup.11 and Q are defined as in claim 1. The compounds of the general formula I are effective inhibitors of HIV reverse transcriptase.
