disinfecting glass, whereby the glass comprises: 30 95 wt. % SiO.sub.2,0
40 wt. % Na .sub.2O, 0 40 wt. % K.sub.2O, 0 40 wt. % Li.sub.2O, 0 35 wt.
% CaO, 0 10 wt. % MgO, 0 10 wt. % Al.sub.2O.sub.3, 0 15 wt. %
P.sub.2O.sub.5 wt. % .sup.B2.sup.O3?, 0 10 wt. % NaF, 0 10 wt. % LiF, 0
10 wt. % KF, 0 10 wt. % CaF.sub.2, 0 5 wt. % Ag.sub.2O, 0 10 wt. %
MgF.sub.2,0 2 wt. % Fe.sub.2O.sub.3and 0 10 wt. % XJ.sub.y, where
X.dbd.Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs, Be, Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba, Ag or Zn and y=1 or y=2 and
the sum of XJ.sub.y> is 10 ppm.
