Disclosed herein are a composition for peritoneal dialysis comprising an .alpha.-keto amino acid, and a method for peritoneal dialysis using the same. The composition allows peritoneal dialysis to be effected without the problems accompanying conventional compositions, including tissue toxicity and uremia.
