A honeycomb structure includes a bonded honeycomb segment article in which
a plurality of honeycomb segments are integrally bonded on mutual bonding
surfaces thereof via bonding material layers; and an outer peripheral
coating layer which covers an outer peripheral surface of the bonded
honeycomb segment article. The honeycomb structure has a structure in
which a plurality of cells constituting fluid channels are arranged in
parallel with one another in a central axis direction. Solid cells are
beforehand arranged in four corners of each of opposite end faces of the
honeycomb segment and/or the center of each side of an outer peripheral
portion of each of the opposite end faces of the honeycomb segment, and
the solid cells are integrated with the honeycomb segment.
