A process for producing lactose particles comprises combining a
predetermined quantity of lactose seed particles to a first aqueous
solution comprising a plurality of lactose particles to form a second
solution, wherein the predetermined quantity of lactose seed particles is
present in a well dispersed suspension and the first aqueous solution is
saturated with said plurality of lactose particles; and subjecting the
second solution to conditions sufficient to induce crystallization of the
lactose seed particles to form a second plurality of lactose particles
having a median particle size of about 25 microns to about 100 microns.
