The invention relates to an optical connector for connecting plastic optical fibers for establishing multimedia connections in motor vehicles according to the MOST.RTM. standard with an ESD protection. The object formulated for the invention is to provide a connector which is resistant to voltage flashovers and, in particular, can be handled in a simple manner even after the effect of moisture. The object is achieved by means of an optical connector comprising a dielectric connector housing with a receptacle, an optical connection element and an electro-optical converter, wherein provision is made of at least an electrically conductive protection element against electrostatic discharges in the region of the receptacle.
