A therapeutic method is provided for treating a mammal afflicted with a herpesvirus infection, comprising administering an effective amount of a compound of formula I: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 -R.sub.11, have any of the values disclosed in the specification; or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. The invention also provides novel compounds of formula I, and pharmaceutical compositions comprising compounds of formula I.

Een therapeutische methode wordt verstrekt voor het behandelen van een getroffen zoogdier met een herpesvirusbesmetting, bestaand uit beherend een efficiënte hoeveelheid samenstelling van formule I: ## STR1 ## waarin R.sub.1 - R.sub.11, hebben om het even welk van de waarden die in de specificatie worden onthuld; of een farmaceutisch aanvaardbaar zout daarvan. De uitvinding verstrekt ook nieuwe samenstellingen van formule I, en farmaceutische samenstellingen bestaand uit samenstellingen van formule I.
