A magnetic head having a first layer having a positive magnetostriction and
a second layer coupled to the first layer. The second layer has a negative
magnetostriction that counteracts at least a portion of the positive
magnetostriction of the first layer so that the net effective magnetic
anisotropy of the layers together is reduced or essentially cancelled,
thereby increasing a sensitivity of the layer(s) to external magnetic
fields.
