The invention involves encapsulation of phosphorescent molecules in
polymeric matrices to prevent phosphorescence quenching. Specifically,
polymers containing a significant portion of halogens have been found to
be good matrices for encapsulation of phosphorescent molecules to provide
strong phosphorescence at ambient conditions. Those encapsulated
phosphorescent molecules can find a wide variety of applications for
detection of many species, including biological and chemical molecules as
well as micro-organisms.
